IT WASNT A BRIDGE TOO FAR

Well that was more like it !!

We travel to the league leaders for a night match
Bridge havent dropped a point all season and we are up against it
but our lads mustnt have read the script !!

We give the performance of the season.

Straight from the kick off you can see the boys are up for the challenge.
Closing down, chasing back and putting their back four under pressure from the start

We get our reward after only 7 mins
Great corner from george, a far post header from andy b, the ball falls to matty cliffe,
he puts his foot through it and we are 1  0  up, their manager and lads look stunned.

Its a great game and after 13 mins bridge draw level with a well worked goal down the left
nobody tracks the runner and its 1  - 1

Our lads dont let the goal effect them at all and its back to business

For the second time on the night we take the lead after 20 mins.
That man cliffe plays his part again, he puts a fabulous free kick right into the mix
and there is jamie to flick it with his head past the helpless keeper   2  - 1 up

the lads are defending from the front, all the way back to a our brilliant back four and matty d in net.

but with half time approaching, bridge get the benefit of a dodgy offside decision, the lad runs on and slams it into the top corner and its 2  - 2 at the break

a great 40 mins of football.

The gaffer would normally bring subs on at this point, but cant change the shape of the game after that first half display

we wondered whether the lads could keep up that effort for another 40 mins, but we shouldnt have worried because they did exactly that and more.

the defence were outstanding, a great save from matty d, a goal line clearance from jake walker and numerous headers from matty cliffe.

Bridge normally play the ball through defences but eventually realised that on the night they werent going to do that against our lads, so resorted to the long ball tactic, only to be met with more towering headers from the back four.

then we nearly nick it at the end
matty cliffe launched yet another of his superb free kicks into the area, the ball ends up being nodded in by jamie, only to be given offside

the whistle goes and we become the only team to take a point off bridge
they are gutted, but did say that we were the best team they had played by a long way
and i couldnt agree more !!

a truly brilliant gutsy effort from the lads and it brings a smile to the gaffers face.

man of the match ?   well a pitch full of heros without doubt, from keeper to the forwards
but even having said that one lad stood out from the crowd, our warrior of a defender matty cliife
fantastic defending, an assist for one goal and scores the other
take a bow young man !!

one last game to go and a few issues to put right against atherton next week
but if we play like this again they will take care of themselves.
